Elisha’s Miracles

What did Elisha’s servant see at Dothan?

In 2 Kings 6:15–17, Elisha’s servant sees a hostile army surrounding Dothan. After Elisha prays for his eyes to be opened, the servant sees the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.

Read the Scriptures

Two things are visible at the same time

The enemy force remains present when the servant sees God’s provision. Elisha’s prayer changes what his servant can perceive. The account then shifts from fear to the handling of captured enemies, which makes the later verses essential to understanding the purpose of the deliverance.

Read through to the meal

Elisha leads the blinded force to Samaria. When the king asks whether to kill them, Elisha directs him to feed them and send them back. The account ends with a meal and a release. For discussion, ask why the author includes this response after the spectacular vision and what it shows about the kind of authority Elisha exercises.
